6.10 Summary
In this chapter, various image thresholding schemes using advanced fuzzy
sets such as intuitionistic fuzzy and Type II fuzzy set theories to segment
poor contrasted blood vessels and blood cells are discussed. Fuzzy set the-
ory does give better results, but in some cases when fuzzy methods fail to
provide better results, advanced fuzzy set theoretic techniques may be use-
ful as these sets consider more uncertainties. A special type of segmentation,
that is, leucocyte segmentation, is also discussed where the leucocytes are
thresholded with shapes preserved. It is very much essential in diagnosing
different kinds of diseases. Also, MATLAB coding is provided, which will be
helpful to the readers in implementing the algorithm.
