(Modified from Chaira, T., Contrast enhancement of medical images using Type II fuzzy set, in
Proc. of IEEE on National Conference on Communication , IIT Delhi, India, 1-5, 2013.)
Actually the medical images are poorly illuminated, so the background
is not bright and the inner structures are not clear. Enhancement should be
such that the background is brighter and the structures are highlighted to
make the inner structures clearly visible, which is obtained in the proposed
Type II fuzzy method.
5.6 Introduction to MATLAB ®
In this section, few MATLAB ® examples are given. Before writing the pro-
grams, a brief overview of MATLAB is given that will help the students to
understand the programs very easily. In many cases, the students sometimes
find it difficult to implement the image processing algorithms in MATLAB.
In view of this, a brief note on MATLAB, followed by common MATLAB
commands and finally the MATLAB codes of the various algorithms, is pre-
sented. MATLAB is a Matrix Laboratory; it was invented in the late 1970s
by Cleve Moler. It is a numerical computing method for writing programs.
