f you enjoy practicing languages other than your own, you'll proba-
bly find that Spanish is easier than most. One of the main reasons
for this is that it is very logical and has a lot of rules to guide your
learning. Pronunciation is a joy, because in general the word is pro-
nounced exactly as it looks - unlike English!
The syllable emphasis in Spanish is identified in one of three ways. If
the word has an accent, the stress is on the accented vowel (dif-Í-cil).
If the word ends in a vowel, an 'n' or an 's,' the stress is on the second-
to-last syllable (her-MAN-o). Otherwise, it falls on the last syllable
(est-AR).
