sphere. With a view of Academy Bay is Toldo Azul , on Av. Charles
Darwin. This open-air patio restaurant seems to be fairly popular and
is close to all the waterfront activity near the panga pier. It serves
good seafood. Happy Tummy is farther north and perhaps worth
eating at for the name alone. Among the best in town is La
Garrapata , right near the strange La Panga discoteque, but you will
pay more for your meal.
For a bar ambience, yet serving food as well, try the adjacent Joe's
and Niño's . I have not eaten at either, but they seem to pack in the
crowds on occasion.
Just north of the bay along Av. Charles Darwin is Rincón del Alma ,
with good food and decent prices.
Keep in mind that all food and drink prices in
the islands are higher than the mainland.
San Cristóbal Island
In Puerto Baquerizo Moreno , the Malecón (Av. Charles Darwin)
offers a few choices, or you can head one block east along Av. Villamil
toward the intersection of Hernandez. Among others, here you will
find Rosita , one of the most popular restaurants in town. There are
other less expensive options in the vicinity as well.

There are numerous souvenir shops all along Av. Charles
Darwin in Puerto Ayora and its adjacent streets, most of-
fering comparable quality. Prices are very inflated, and
much of the stuff can actually be bought in Quito at a frac-
tion of the cost. The best supermarket is across from the panga dock
at the southern end of town.
Nightlife
As far as nightlife goes, follow your ears, and ask your
guide and crew about the latest hotspots. There isn't any-
where very memorable, but then again most people don't
go to the Galápagos for the human nightlife. A couple of
