Valdivia
South of Puerto López, about half-way to Salinas, is Valdivia, named
after the country's earliest known pre-Columbian inhabitants. There
is a small museumhere with remains and interpretive displays of the
Valdivian culture, as well as an ecolodge. Othewise, this is a rela-
tively uneventful place to visit.

Vacationing highlanders flood Bahía on holidays and dur-
ing their “summer” weekends. The influx of people creates
distinct peak-season accommodations prices. Finding the
right place - at the right price - is usually just a matter of
wandering around a bit.
Hotel Palma , Av. Bolívar 914 and Riofrío,

travelers' choice. Aside from its inexpensive and popular restaurant,
however, the hotel is bare. Rooms vary in quality; some include
shared or private baths and fans. $
A better alternative is the comfortable, friendly, and affordable

Rooms with private baths and hot water are more than adequate for
budget travelers. Breakfast is included and the family and dining
