Deep-Sea Fishing
Deep-sea fishing trips based in Salinas are very popular
and highly recommended. Try Pesca Tours ,
4-2772-
4-2443-365. They charter boats
(gear included) for six to 10 people. The day-long trips cost
about $60 per person if you fill the boat. Whale-watching opportuni-
ties also exist in Salinas, and during the peak months of December to
early May, Salinas is a lively town with plenty of other water-based
adventures, including skiing and Jet Skiing. Inquire at the nicer ho-
tels for these activities.

Paragliding
The small coastal resort of Crucita - between Manta and
Bahía - offers hang-gliding and paragliding opportunities
along the renowned sea cliffs. This area can get crowded,
especially during weekends and holidays, but there are plenty of
nicer beaches to the north. The sea cliffs, which are a habitat for an
abundance of local seabirds, offer wonderful wind-powered activities.
Though it is high on my list of things to do, however, I have to admit I
have yet to try paraglidingmyself. North of Bahía, the smaller fishing
village of Canoa is also known for paragliding from sea cliffs.
