In-Depth Information
The largest of the hotels is Hotel Casa Blanca ,
6-731-031, 6-731-
389, or 6-731-390, fax 6-731-096, built more to accommodate sheer
numbers than to provide a quality atmosphere. The list of amenities
here is extensive, however, and there's an outdoor restaurant and
bar. Quality rooms or individual cabins for large groups are clean and
comfortable, with air-conditioning, cable TV, private baths, and hot
water. The beach is adjacent to and directly accessible from the hotel
grounds. $$-$$$
The Hotel Castel Nuevo ,
2-3223-608 (or 2-2223-262 in Quito), fax
2-3223-452, boasts three swimming pools, including the largest in
town. Set near the beach, comfortable rooms include private baths,
hot water, and fans. There's plenty of opportunity here to lounge
about in the shade or chat with new friends at the bar. $$-$$$
One of the better choices for low-end accommodations along the beach
is Galerias Atacames ,
6-731-149. Just to the right of the foot-
bridge to the beach and adjacent to many other hotels, this is where
budget travelers who have drifted to the coast end up staying. The
English-speaking owners are friendly. The restaurant's food is deli-
cious food and the prices are reasonable. $
The American-owned Hostal Chavalito , along the same beachfront
area as Galerias Atacames,
6-731-113, also does a good job of cater-
ing to international budget travelers. It offers rooms with private
baths and, in a couple of cases, balconies with views of the ocean. The
owner here can be quite entertaining. $
Stepping up a notch in quality and price, but still economical for two to
four people, is the German-owned Cabañas Caida del Sol ,
6-731-
479. Enjoy a nice atmosphere in the individual cabins, with private
baths and ceiling fans. The mini-fridge is perfect for keeping those
cervezas cool until it's time to watch the sunset over the Pacific. $$
Súa
In Súa, try Hotel Súa ,
6-731-004, for a roomwith a view. Their res-
taurant serves delicious local seafood and French cuisine. All rooms
have private baths and hot water. $-$$
Hotel Chadra Ramos ,
6-731-006 or 6-731-070, offers a bit more
character and is probably the best value in town. There are good
views and a tasty restaurant, as well as a small beach adjacent to the
property. $
