Ask around for Internet cafés, as there are a few within close prox-
imity to most of the accommodations mentioned in this chapter,
though they mushroomed in numbers for a couple of years and then
thinned out. They are usually associated with hotels that cater to in-
ternational travelers. Keep inmind that Internet connections tend to
be expensive here, compared to Quito.

has an ATM and offers good rates for travelers checks. Banco la
Previsora , at Grán Colombia and Benigno Malo, accepts Visa.
Banco de Guayaquil , at Sucre between Hermano Miguel and
Borrero, and Banco del Pichincha , at Bolívar 9-74 and Malo, both

for local guides offering trips into Podocarpus Nacional Park. Also
visit the Minesterio del Ambiente , on Sucre between Imbabura

The bus station is 1¼ miles north of downtown on Av. Cuxibamba,
paralleling the river. Taxis can be found in the city center and in the
area around the central park, Parque Central. The Military Hospi-
tal is at Colón and Bernardo Valdivies,
