luxurious rural retreat popular with Ecuador's upper echelon. Rooms
begin at $150. Breakfast and dinner are included. $$$$
Ibarra
If you want to get even farther away from Otavalo, Hostería
Chorlaví ,
6-955-777, fax 6-956-311, is farther north near the town
of Ibarra (Pan-American Highway Km 4, south of town). A bit more
traditional than some of the extravagant lodges listed above, the rea-
sonably priced Chorlaví maintains an old hacienda atmosphere in a
relaxed setting, with the added bonus of a pool, a hot tub and musica
folklórica on weekend nights. It gets crowded with tour groups on the
weekends, so reservations are recommended. Note that Ibarra is a
muchmore tranquil city thanOtavalo, with strong traditions and less
tourist influence. $-$$
In Ibarra itself, all accommodations are very inexpensive for what

Montecarlo offers an indoor heated pool, hot tub and sauna. Rooms
have private bath, telephone and cable TV. $$

Oviedo and Olmedo. Walk around for a bit and check out a few for the
best fit. The most popular is Hostal Imbabura , at Oviedo 9-33 and
Narváez,
