San Pablo del Lago
Along the shore of San Pablo del Lago is the HosterĂ­a Puertolago ,
south of Otavalo along the Pan-American Highway at Km 5.5,

bike around the shoreline, take a boat onto the lake, or simply relax
on the shore. The accommodations offer a warm setting with rooms
that include private baths, hot water, phones, and TVs, as well as a

wonderfully renovated hacienda on the southern outskirts of San
Pablo del Lago. This is one of the region's oldest and largest hacien-
das. It has been completely redone to offer attractive and comfortable
accommodations with an authentic atmosphere. Most of the hand-
some rooms include private fireplaces or are set back in separate cot-
tages. Comfort abounds, with attractive gardens, a bar-side fireplace,
and plenty of relaxing common-room facilities. The meals from their
excellent restaurant can be added to the price of the stay, and horse-
back riding is also available. It's a great choice if you prefer top-
quality ranch-style accommodations. $$$+
North of Otavalo
Along the Pan-American (and just beyond the turnout for Cotacachi),

region for the price, Pinsaqui provides a cozy ensemble of rooms, each
with antiques and a unique personality. The colonial flare here is ob-
vious and the setting is truly grand, complete with dining, beautiful
grounds and plenty of options for exploring the area at a relaxed pace.

Cotacachi
The granddaddy of luxury and elegance in the Otavalo region is the
HosterĂ­a LaMirage , in Cotacachi,

furniture and very attractive rooms, though some might think it a lit-
tle too ornate. Each unique room offers comfort and elegance, not to
