We fl ew in the personalized airplane of Australian bush pilot Bob Bates to the
Bensbach River basin in southern Papua New Guinea. This lush area is fi lled with the same
animals and plants that are found in Australia to the south, but it benefi ts from a year-round
water fl ow from New Guinea's mountains.
