In-Depth Information
Figure 4.5: SearchTogethers' group query history helps facilitate lightweight awareness of other group
members' search strategies. This awareness may be helpful for reducing undesired redundant efforts, as
well as for helping users reformulate their queries by exposing them to others' syntax and synonyms. The
query histories are interactive, and can be used as shortcuts to view the results found by other group
members.
Figure 4.6: SearchTogether augments search results with several types of metadata. Visitation awareness
information provides an image of a group member adjacent to any search results they have visited. If a
group member has provided a rating (“thumbs down” for negative or “thumbs up” for positive) or added
a comment to a page, these are also indicated via icons. This metadata can help users triage search results;
for example, they may wish to avoid re-visiting sites already visited by other group members, or they may
wish to specifically visit such sites when a group member indicates there is information of value there.
