Spree eclectic concept store
16 rue la Vieuville, 18ème • 01 42 23 41 40
Open 11-7:30 Tue-Sat, Mon 2-7:30
When you first walk past Spree's window, it's hard to
work out whether this is a retro furniture store, modern
art gallery or cutting-edge fashion haven. The interior is
punctuated with original Charles Eames and George
Nelson chairs, and hung with Calder-like mobiles and
1960s Murano disc chandeliers, all of which can be
bought. The warehouse-like space at the back of the
store is devoted to fashion and boasts an excellent
selection of international designers, including Comme
des Garçons, Eley Kishimoto, Vanessa Bruno and
Isabel Marant. Accessories scattered around the store
include retro-style bags by Aurélie Mathigot, rings
(designed to look as if they pierce your finger) by
Pièces à Conviction and surreal silver jewellery by hip
French label Lyie van Rycke. Spree is also the only
place in Paris to find handmade ballerina shoes by
E Porselli, otherwise available only in Italy.
