Paul Smith English class
22 & 24 boulevard Raspail, 7ème • 01 42 84 15 30
www.paulsmith.co.uk Open 11-7 Mon, 10-7 Tue-Sat
The Brit with a penchant for craftsmanship, tradition
and humour is a favourite on this side of the Channel,
too. His Paris HQ is a magnet for men who are after
a sharp suit, a kimono-print shirt or a silver-and-
turquoise bracelet, while women pop in for printed
scarves, shoes and expertly cut jackets and dresses.

Lucien Pellat-Finet cashmere king
1 rue Montalembert, 7ème • 01 42 22 22 77
www.lucienpellat-finet.com Open 10-7 Mon-Fri, 11-7 Sat
Lucien Pellat-Finet is known for his contemporary
luxury knits in instantly identifiable colours and
idiosyncratic patterns. His playful boutique, designed
by new-generation architect Christian Biecher, perfectly
matches the mood of his hooded sweaters, barely-
there tank tops, bikinis and homewares.
15 D2
Martine Sitbon original chic
13 rue de Grenelle, 7ème • 01 44 39 84 44
Open 11-7 Mon-Sat
This slick, barn-like space, with its colour splashes on
the ceiling, is a fitting backdrop for Sitbon's original,
richly coloured clothes. Encompassing stark, angular
tailoring as well as a softer, more romantic approach
(panelled velvet and silk or fluttery chiffon dresses),
Sitbon's designs fly off the shelves.
Record Shops
While the vast emporiums of fnac and Virgin will sate
any musical craving (and are open until midnight),
Paris possesses other disc dealers for specialist
sounds. Sixties vinyl, particularly French chanson ,
reigns at En Avant La Zizique , while tiny Afric Music
shimmies to a different beat: CDs from the Congo
to Togo, with a little Caribbean thrown in. Jazz
aficionados browse stacks of vinyl, secondhand CDs
and old jazz magazines at Paris Jazz Corner , while
Wave on rue Keller (electronica) and nearby Techno
Import (techno and trance) are more up to date. At
the other end of the musical spectrum, Papageno
is bliss for opera buffs, with more than 4,000 vinyl
albums (pre- and post-war), and rare boxed sets
and CDs. For further details, see pp222-3 .
