12 F1
Dong Huong Vietnamese canteen
14 rue Louis-Bonnet, 11ème • 01 43 57 18 88
Open lunch & dinner Wed-Mon
When you can't face another multi-course meal, a bowl
of Vietnamese noodles can be just the thing to revive
your appetite. Dong Huong stands out for the quality of
its pho (noodle soups) and grilled meats and for its
large non-smoking room - a rarity in Paris. The crunchy
imperial rolls are also exceptionally good. Cheap
Jacques Mélac no-frills wine bar
42 rue Léon-Frot, 11ème • 01 43 70 59 27 • Q Charonne
Open lunch & dinner Tue-Sat
There's nothing complicated about moustachioed
Jacques' wine bar: cheese is hacked off a giant hunk,
charcuterie is sliced before your eyes and the non-
smoking room is reached through the tiny kitchen,
where the day's specials such as porc aligot (sausage
and cheesy potato mash) are prepared. Moderate
12 E3
L'Homme Bleu North African local
55bis rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud, 11ème • 01 48 07 05 63
Open dinner only Mon-Sat
The queue out the door attests to L'Homme Bleu's
popularity (they don't take reservations, so show up
early). The main floor is more atmospheric thanks to
its open kitchen, but those lucky enough to get a
table anywhere won't complain. Delicious couscous
and fragrant tagines are the stars. Moderate
18 F2
Crêperie Bretonne Fleurie pancakes
67 rue de Charonne, 11ème • 01 43 55 62 29
Open lunch & dinner daily
Two steps from the booming Bastille bar scene, this
crêperie shows the quartier's flip-side, with real
Breton specialities. Proof of its authenticity is the
crêpe filled with andouille (tripe sausage), but you
can also stick to the more conventional ham, cheese
and egg variations, washed down with cider. Cheap
