Au Pied de Cochon former market eatery
6 rue Coquillière, 1er • 01 40 13 77 00
www.pieddecochon.com Open 24/7
The signature dish of humble grilled pig's trotter with
Béarnaise sauce is one to try at this jolly 24-hour
brasserie in the heart of Les Halles, the city's former
central food market. It's great for a meal of onion soup
and briny oysters, too, and gets lively after 2am, when
theatre folk and clubbers tend to drop by. Expensive

L'Ardoise seasonal menus
28 rue du Mont Thabor, 1er • 01 42 96 28 18
Open lunch & dinner Tue-Fri, dinner only Sat & Sun
Pierre Jay's bistro is one of the few in Paris to open on
Sundays, but that's only one reason to visit. Local
office workers and Parisians in the know congregate
here for the great-value food, ranging from pig's
trotters to pan-fried scallops with oyster mushrooms.
Desserts are not their strong point though. Moderate

Restaurant du Palais Royal real class
110 galerie Valois, 1er • 01 40 20 00 27
Open lunch & dinner Mon-Sat
In summer, a table on the terrace here is hotly sought-
after, so book ahead. In winter the jewel-toned dining
room is a treat, and the Mediterranean-inspired food
is consistently delicious. (The chef claims to make the
best risotto in Paris.) For dessert, try millefeuilles
filled with fruit and crème Chantilly. Moderate

L'Espadon delivers everything you'd expect of the Ritz:
sumptuous surroundings, smooth (and surprisingly
unsnooty) service and simply fabulous food. The lunch
menu (68€) is a bargain, entitling diners to a lavish
four-course feast, including a stunning cheese trolley
and coffee with mignardises (tiny cakes). Expensive
