L'Hotel indulgent fantasies

Oscar Wilde spent his last days here, famously claim-
ing that he was dying beyond his means. There's no
need to take it quite that far, but a night here is worth
the expense. L'Hotel is a temple to opulence, with 20
rooms - individually decorated by the ubiquitous
Jaques Garcia - leading off the circular lightwell. Part
the heavy drapes at the door of the Léopard Room to
reveal a riot of purple taffeta, velvet, gilt and leopard
print. There's also a red marble bathroom with a
sunken tub. The Roi de Naples Room features a huge
bed, a fireplace and impressive chandeliers while the
St Petersburg is an imperial dream of jade, mirrors
and marble. In the basement, the perpetual-wave
pool, mosaic steam room and circular chill-out lounge
provide a heaven for hedonists. However, shy
Sybarites will be pleased to discover that this spa area
can only be reserved for private sessions. Expensive
