COCKTAILS
DESIGNER DRINKS
TRADITIONAL BARS
Hemingway
Ritz Hotel, 15 place Vendôme, 1er
The daddy of Paris's cocktail bars,
and a super-sophisticated place to
sip a superb dry Martini or the signa-
ture concoction, a Ritz 75. (See p133)
AZ Bar
62 rue Mazarine, 6ème
Expect a lovely setting, amazing
floral displays, beautiful people and
expertly mixed drinks - all in true
Conran style. (See p142)
Le Café Noir
65 rue Montmartre, 2ème
The furnishings might be traditional,
but Le Café Noir is a trendy spot,
full of bright young things making
themselves at home. (See p135)
Harry's
5 rue Danou, 2ème
Birthplace of the Bloody Mary and
the haunt of in-the-know cocktail
aficionados. Be warned: they never
stint on measures here. (See p136)
Hotel Costes
239 rue St-Honoré, 1er
Designed by Jacques Garcia in 1997
and still resolutely hip. It's worth
trying to get a table at the bar of
the Hotel Costes. (See p132)
Au Petit Fer à Cheval
30 rue Vieille du Temple, 4ème
The old-fashioned decor here was so
well-loved that it was totally recre-
ated after a recent fire. The zinc bar
is the star of the show. (See p138)
Le Crocodile
6 rue Royer Collard, 5ème
Eccentric and fun, Le Crocodile is a
place to come if you love cocktails
but hate the slick surroundings that
often accompany them. (See p141)
Le Bar du Plaza
Plaza Athenée, 25 ave Montaigne, 8ème
A real see-and-be-seen destination
bar: you'll find sleek design, potent
cocktails and the rich-and-famous
out on the town. (See p145)
Bar des Théâtres
6 avenue Montaigne, 8ème
An old-fashioned bar-restaurant, with
an unusually mixed clientele for such
an up-market address. (See p145)
China Club
50 rue Charenton, 12ème
One of the Bastille's most suave and
sophisticated bars, with low lighting,
huge sofas, a well-dressed crowd
and serious cocktails. (See p148)
The bars at any of the palace
hotels (see p177) are a good
option if youre looking for drinks
that have a certain chichi style.
Fubar
5 rue St-Sulpice, 6ème
The Fubar is all about flavoured
Martinis (try the apple, or the
sweeter lychee), served with style
and a smile. ( See p141)
Le Sancerre
35 rue des Abbesses, 18ème
For a slice of old Montmartre and
its most exciting café crowd, Le
Sancerre cannot be beaten. Great
beer and bonhomie. (See p148)
