Founded by Molière's troupe in 1680, this state
theatre is famed for its classical French productions
(Molière, Racine, Corneille), but an added draw is the
surprisingly intimate 896-seat Italianate auditorium.

Born out of post-1968 populism, this, the original
café-théâtre, is still Paris's best for one-man shows,
comedy and short plays. The venue brought fame to
satirical comic Coluche, actor Patrick Dewaere and
writer/actor Sotha, all of whose works are still
performed to a mixed and enthusiastic audience.

World-class ballet, opera and classical music
productions are the draw at this illustrious theatre. A
recent re-orientation in programming has given a more
contemporary direction (music by Pierre Boulez and
dance from Maurice Béjart). Excellent morning concerts
(Mon, Wed, Fri) are held in the foyer (entry charged).

Opened in 1932, the city's largest cinema has an
Art Deco façade and splendid Baroque-style decor.
Audiences of up to 2,650 come here for blockbuster
movies, concerts and the celebrated Christmas-time
son et lumière. Entertaining behind-the-scenes tours
feature Disney-esque special effects.
