In-Depth Information
Fig. 2-17 The Missing
Profile warning dialog box
is seen here due to the
untagged document I am
attempting to open. I have
the option of assigning a
profile from my Imacon
scanner using the pop-up
menu seen here as well as
converting into my
preferred working space.
mentioned that with the Off policy, paste conversion is always “by the
numbers” (i.e., it is not converted) within a color model. The color
numbers of the copied data is pasted into the untagged document.
Missing Profile: Ask When Opening This option tells me when the
document I'm opening has no embedded profile. We have a document of
numbers with no meaning so the best we can do is guess. If a user opens
a document with no embedded profile, they get the dialog seen in Fig. 2-
17. This shows how the user can pick two possible options. If the check
box is not applied, then the user is assigning the scanner input profiles
profile to this document, which informs Photoshop about the color space
of the document. The radio button (with the and then convert document to
working RGB check box applied) allows the user to pick a source profile
describing where the document came from and convert it into the
working space. In this example, the profile that describes where the doc-
ument came from (ARs_Imacon_848.icc) is specified and by clicking on
the check box below that, I can convert the document into the working
space [Adobe RGB (1998)]. Untagged files are always problematic.
Section 4: Conversion Options (Visible only with Advanced Mode in
Photoshop CS and More Options in Photoshop CS2)
This section controls the conversion options when using ICC profiles.
Many of the options presented here are also available in the Convert to
Profile command, which will be discussed later. It is important to recog-
nize when and where the options presented in this area of the color set-
tings affect color space conversions. When a user selects any color space
conversion in the Image-Mode menu (other than the Convert to Profile
command), these settings will be used. Should a user have an RGB doc-
ument and select Image-Mode-CMYK , the options in this area of the color
settings will be utilized for that conversion. The same would be true for
any other color space conversions found in the Mode submenu. The ren-
dering intents in this area of the color settings is used for the color space
conversions.
