conversion and that the first conversion should be from the

5.
The
Printer Profile
pop-up menu is where you would select
your printer profile, so go ahead and pick the correct profile for
your printer and paper (in this example it would be the Epson
we wish to use for this cross-rendering). This informs Photoshop
what the ultimate print/output space to use for the color space
conversion is. In this example the conversions would be
ColorMatch RGB to U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 to Printer (e.g.,
Epson 2200Matt), a three-way conversion.
Since we want an absolute colorimetric intent when doing
these kinds of conversions, it's necessary to select the
Simulate
Paper Color
check box. This is the location where we inform
Print with Preview
what kind of rendering intent to the final
output device we want. If the
Simulate Paper Color
check box
is off, we could pick the
Simulate Black Ink
check box. This
would produce the relative colorimetric intent
without
using
Black Point Compensation
to the Epson. If the
Simulate
Black Ink
check box is off, this would produce the relative
colorimetric intent
with
Black Point Compensation
to the
Epson.
In nearly every case, you will want to use an absolute
colorimetric intent for paper simulation when proofing, so have
the
Simulate Paper Color
check box on as seen in Fig. 9-9-7.
Also, be very sure that you do
not
pick the
Proof
radio button
unless you are sure you want this kind of three-way conversion.
Keep in mind that the
Color Handling
pop-up menu is used to
configure various additional settings in the
Print with Preview
command. Depending on what is selected in this pop-up menu,
some additional options like the ability to pick a printer profile
or a proof preset will be disabled. Next to this pop-up is a little !
icon. Hover your mouse over this icon and notice at the bottom
of the
Print with Preview
dialog that text appears as a
reminder about whether to enable or disable color management
in the subsequent printer driver. For example, when
Color
Handling
is set to
Let Photoshop Determine Colors
, the
reminder test tells you to disable color management in the print
driver.
Tutorial #10: Testing Your Display Profile
This tutorial is useful for getting an idea of how well your display behaves
after calibration and profiling. By no means is an imperfect score in these
tests a reason to be overly alarmed. Both tests give you an idea of the
