in ColorMatch RGB and your ultimate goal is to print this on a
press using SWOP inks. You want to see how the final output will
appear using your Epson printer prior to sending the document to the
service bureau. The process would be to conduct a conversion from Col-
orMatch RGB to U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 CMYK since this is the
eventual press conditions and thus the profile to use for the RGB-to-
CMYK conversion. However, we would need to conduct a U.S. Web
Coated (SWOP) v2 CMYK-to-Epson RGB conversion to proof this on the
Epson printer. Sending the U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 data directly to
Epson would produce a poor appearing print. We could conduct two
rounds of conversions using the
Convert to Profile
command, but this
can be accomplished using the
Print with Preview
command using the
following technique.
Before beginning this tutorial, set your Photoshop Color Settings to
U.S. Prepress Defaults
(
North America Prepress 2
in Photoshop
CS2).
1.
Choose
View-Proof Setup
-
Custom
and select
Working
CMYK
from the
Device to Simulate
pop-up menu. Select a
rendering intent and
Black Point Compensation
but leave the
two
Simulate
check boxes off. New in CS2 is the ability to
select a proofer in the
Print with Preview
dialog based on any
saved
Custom Proof Setup
. However, the
Working CMYK
option is always available. Should you wish to use a different
process other than
Working CMYK
, you will need to save the
Proof Setup
for access in
Custom Proof Setup
.
2.
Choose
File-Print with Preview
and the dialog in Fig. 9-9-7
appears. Make sure the
More Options
button has been clicked
and the pop-up menu is set to
Color Management
. The
Document Source Profile
shows us that the document to be
printed is in ColorMatch RGB.
3.
Click the
Proof
radio button if it is not currently selected. Notice
that the
Proof Setup Preset
pop-up menu now becomes active
as well as the
Simulate Paper Color
check box. Further, the
Rendering Intent
pop-up menu becomes inactive (grayed out).
You may want to click between the
Document
radio button and
Proof
radio button several times to see how these options are
updated.
4.
Click the
Color Handling
pop-up menu, and select
Let
Photoshop Determine Colors
. From the
Proof Setup
Presets
, be sure that
Working CMYK
is selected. Additional
saved Custom Proof setups you may have made can also be
accessed from this pop-up. In this case, you should see a selected
item named
Working CMYK
, which you set in step 1. Selecting
Proof
informs Photoshop that you wish to produce a three-way
