RGB working space, not a print/output space, because in step 5,
we will select a printer profile for conversions. If the document is
already in a print/output space, doing this would produce a
double application of the output profile and the color on the
resulting print will be very poor. If this were the case, you could
pick the
No Color Management
option in the
Color Handling
pop-up menu, which tells Photoshop CS2 to send the data to the
printer without conducting any color space conversions.
5.
Click the
Color Handling
pop-up menu and select
Let
Photoshop Determine Colors
if not already selected. The
Printer Profile
pop-up menu is where you select
your
printer
profile, so go ahead and pick the correct profile for your printer
and paper. Also, pick the rendering intent for the conversion into
the print space. I would also recommend you have
Use Black
Point Compensation
check box on. The preview window in
Print with Preview
is not color managed, so not only will you
need to know prior to using this command what rendering
intent to use (based on a soft proof), you cannot rely on this
small preview for anything other than FPO. The settings in the
upper right area of the
Print with Preview
command allows
you to adjust the size and position of the image to be printed;
this is why this small preview is seen in this dialog.
6.
If you click
OK
, an on-the-fly conversion from ColorMatch RGB
to your printer output profile will be conducted as the image
data is sent to the printer once you configure the print driver
settings. The CMM that will be used in
Print with Preview
is
the CMM you picked in the Photoshop Color Settings.
Otherwise, this method of converting and printing will produce
the same results as if you applied the profile using Photoshop's
Convert to Profile
command. If you wish to print the image,
click
OK
or click on the
Cancel
button to dismiss this dialog. If
you click
OK
, the
Print with Preview
dialog will dismiss itself,
the actual print driver dialog will appear, and you will need to
configure the driver based on the printer and print settings. It is
important that these settings match those settings used to
originally print the profile target.
7.
Once the
Print with Preview
dialog is dismissed, you will
convert the
Printer_Test_File.tif
into a print/output space using
the
Convert to Profile
command. Choose
Edit-Convert to
Profile
in CS2 as seen in Fig. 9-9-2 (page 358).
From the
Profile
pop-up menu, select
your printer profile
.
From the
Engine
pop-up menu, select
Adobe ACE
.
From the
Intent
pop-up menu, select
Relative Colorimetric
.
Have
Use Black Point Compensation
and
Use Dither
check
boxes on.
