In-Depth Information
and the pop-up menu is set to
Color Management
. The
Source Space
radio button shows us that the document to be
printed is in ColorMatch RGB.
3.
Note that in the
Source Space
area of the dialog and just below
the
Document
radio button is a radio button named
Proof
.
Next to it you'll see
U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) V2
listed. This
specific CMYK profile is showing up because we selected it in the
View-Proof Setup
in step 1. Selecting the
Proof
radio button
informs Photoshop that you wish to produce a three-way
conversion and that the first conversion should be from the
original document color space (ColorMatch RGB) to U.S. Web
Coated (SWOP) v2.
4.
The
Print Space Profile
pop-up menu is where you select your
printer profile, so go ahead and pick the correct profile for your
printer and paper (in this example it would be the Epson we
wish to use for this cross rendering). This informs Photoshop
what is the ultimate print space to use for the color space
conversion. If you were to select your printer profile, the
conversions would be ColorMatch RGB to U.S. Web Coated
(SWOP) v2 to Printer (e.g., Epson 2200), a three-way
conversion. Be sure to pick the
Absolute Colorimetric
intent
when doing these kinds of conversions so that the paper white
on the CMYK process will be simulated on the Epson. Also, be
very sure that you do
not
pick this
Proof
button unless you are
sure you want this kind of three-way conversion. If you want to
pick the
Proof Space
radio button and then your actual printer
profile in
Print Space
, and send the data to the printer, you
should see a difference in the final print compared to not picking
this
Proof
radio button. Keep in mind that these settings are
sticky. The next time you use the
Print with Preview
command, should you simply want to convert the data for the
printer, you must remember to disable the
Proof Space
radio
button by selecting the
Print Space
radio button.
Using Print with Preview in Photoshop CS2
1.
Open

2.
If your Color Settings are such that you get an
Embedded
Profile Mismatch
, pick the radio button
Use the embedded

to preserve the color
space of the document, thus allowing the document to open in
ColorMatch RGB, which is the original color space of this
document.
3.
Choose
File-Print with Preview
; the dialog in Fig. 9-9-5
appears. Make sure the
More Options

and the pop-up menu is set to
Color Management
.
