Use Dither

boxes on.
Be sure the
Preview
check box is on.

Using the intent pop-up menu, select
Perceptual
and then
toggle back to
Relative Colorimetric
as many times as
necessary to see the effect on this gradient. Hopefully you should
notice how selecting
Perceptual
alters a great deal more of the
colors being seen since the idea is for this rending intent to alter
all colors in a nonuniform fashion.
Relative Colorimetric
produces a more abrupt transition, especially in the very
saturated areas of the gradient toward the center of the
document.

Also, toggle the
Saturation
intent to see its effect. With any of
the intents, you may wish to toggle on and off the
Preview
check box, which will turn the conversion preview on and off.
This also makes it easier to see the effect of the rendering intent
on the original colors. Also, try the
Absolute Colorimetric
rendering intent to see how the white area toward the bottom is
affected. You may also wish to view the effects of the
Black
Point Compensation
check box on this image. Be aware this is
Fig. 9-3-1

Convert

command
should be set as seen here.
It is OK if the source space
is not LAB color.
