of 4.0. This range of values can be set in the preferences. The average
and max deltaE values specified in the Reproduction Quality area are
indicators of how well colors will reproduce using the two profiles in this
set of linked widgets and could be useful for evaluating how well a source
and destination profile combination will work together. This is a good
way to evaluate how, for example, a working space affects the final
reproduction by considering both profiles and producing a quality index.
Since ColorPursuit can provide Device Quality reports based upon
existing profiles, this tool can be useful in a number of areas. For
example, let's say we have two profiles from an Epson 4800 using two
similar papers from two different manufacturers and wish to know which
paper produces the best quality by virtue of the profiles generated. We
can view both the Profile and Device Quality indexes provided and decide
what papers to use based on this analysis. Alternatively, we wish to see
which driver setting produces the best Profile Quality from the same
papers. ColorPursuit can examine one or more profiles and based on the
device quality rating, provide the user with feedback that may aid in pro-
ducing the best possible Profile Quality. ColorPursuit runs under Mac
OSX. For more information, see http://www.alwancolor.com/english/

GretagMacbeth Eye-One Share
In Chapter 6, I briefly mentioned Eye-One Share as the utility Eye-One
Pro Spectrophotometer users need to capture spectral data of light sources
for building output profiles with ProfileMaker Pro. There are other fea-
tures in this free software that some users, especially those with an Eye-
One Pro Spectrophotometer, might wish to investigate. The power of
Eye-One Share is the ability to measure colors of objects and analyze
these colors for use in building custom color palettes. These palettes can
be shared with other uses. All colors measured by the software provide
full spectral information. A free download of Eye-One Share including a
reduced Pantone library is available at www.i1color.com. Even without
the Eye-One instrument, this software—especially targeted for creative
professionals—offers some useful tools for color creation. For example, a
user with an Eye-One Pro Spectrophotometer may want to measure the
color of a corporate logo and then e-mail that data to another who may
need to produce this color in an application like Photoshop or Illustrator.
Those who have an Eye-One Pro Spectrophotometer attached to Eye-
One Share have the full Pantone library available. This allows them to
find the closest Pantone colors of that corporate logo. From there, a
custom color palette can be created and loaded into a software product
for building this Pantone equivalent color.
Eye-One Share has three main modes of operation: Create , Evaluate ,
and Transform . Figure 8-21 shows the single window user interface for
Eye-One Share, and yes, it's quite a strange interface. The large round
