In-Depth Information
Fig. 6-37 Fuji ColourKit
has a robust profile editor.
Notice the large number of
before-and-after sample
points for numeric
feedback. The Saturation
(Colour Boost) allows
specific types of areas to
be selected such as
saturated colors or pastel
colors to apply the edits.
Just above the Colour
Boost control is the Edit
Manager, which has four
small icons. Each
represents an edit made
and these edits can be
turned on or off or when
double-clicked, to call up
the edit for further
refinement.
an overlay mask to show areas being affected. The overlay stain color is
also user selectable.
One of the most useful features of this product is a full-fledged edit
list whereby I can turn on and off all the various edits applied or double-
click on an icon of an edit and call up the parameters to alter the set-
tings. A before-and-after or single preview window for editing an image
is available (Macintosh version only). The info palette can store up to 10
different sample points on the image. Edits can be applied to either the
soft proof or output table of a profile and to specific rendering intents.
However, this can be applied only one editing session at a time. Edits
can't be made to more than one intent or table without first saving the
profile.
What to Expect from Profile Editors
The process of editing an ICC profile can be a great deal of fun when you
happen to use OPM (Other People's Media). Every profile editor I've ever
used requires countless rounds of editing followed by printing tests using
the edited profile. Unfortunately, when editing a profile, WYSIWYG
rarely results. Being able to print out a sample image with the edited
profile and then going back to an edit list can make the process faster
