user-selectable options. The software automatically will account for
optical brighteners in papers. For CMYK, all black generation settings
are preset based upon the selected printer type (see Fig. 6-24). These
are the default CMYK settings in ProfileMaker Pro (see later). These set-
tings are quite good for defaults, but for users who need control over spe-
cific CMYK parameters, such as black generation, total ink limits, and so
forth, a higher end package (ProfileMaker Publish Pro or ProfileMaker
Photostudio Pro) are recommended.
The various modules in the package are unlocked and available to the
user based upon a license code within the Eye-One Pro Spectropho-
tometer. A user could upgrade from the Photo package to the Proof
package or unlock the ability to use the digital projector module once a
serial code is provided and uploaded to the Eye-One Pro. GretagMacbeth
offers an additional package called Eye-One XT , which includes all the
features of Proof and adds a profile editor and a module to build digital
camera profiles.
Fuji's ColourKit
Fuji has a series of modules for producing monitor, scanner, camera, and
printer profiles as well as a profile editor. For output profiles, Fuji offers
two different application modules: one for RGB output profiles and a
second for CMYK output profiles (see Fig. 6-25). Both products are
wizard-based and easy to use and both support profile averaging of
multiple data files. ColourKit supports five Spectrophotometers (Eye-
One, iCColor, DTP-70, DTP-41, and Spectroscan). A single target for the
RGB profile is available (288) and for CMYK, the IT8/7.3 and a custom
target containing 660 patches. However, if a user measures the supplied
targets and the software, discovers, based on the measured data, that
additional patches are necessary, ColourKit will produce a custom target.
When creating the custom CMYK target, custom ink limiting is an option
if 100 percent ink delivery is too high. Min & max delta-E values can be
viewed graphically for each patch.
Both the RGB and CMYK profile packages have an optional method
of tweaking the profile's neutrality by printing three neutral targets
through the output profile the package has created. The user then
visually selects a series of gray patches that appear neutral by specifying
a corresponding row and column number. The software examines the
user's selection and updates a new profile with edits to the profiles neu-
trality based on this visual feedback. These adjustments can be selected
for shadows, midtones, and highlights based on the printed sheet.
MonacoPROFILER Platinum
MonacoPROFILER Platinum is a high-end proofing package that can
create display, scanner, and output profiles (see Fig. 6-26). The output
