free to walk away since all the measuring is done inside the unit. The
time to automatically scan approximately 900 patches is about 10
minutes. The unit also produces three samples per patch and averages
the data. Like the DTP-41 , the targets must be a certain fixed size and
layout. There are limits to the thickness of paper units, such as the DTP-
41, iCColor, and Spectroscan units, can accept. For the iCColor, the paper
cannot be thicker than 2 mm; for the DTP-41, the material cannot be
thicker than 0.08 mm to 0.6 mm; and for the Spectroscan, the paper
cannot be thicker than 1.5 mm. Should the need arise to measure a mate-
rial thicker than these devices can accept, the handheld Spectropho-
tometers that have no thickness limitations will be the best products to
use.
X-Rite has a new automated X/Y Spectrophotometer called the DTP-
70 seen in Fig. 6-8. It operates on the same principles as the iCColor,
whereby a user places a sheet of paper in one end and the unit auto-
