stand-alone ProfileMaker 5 Digital Camera Module); X-Rite/ MonacoProfiler
and PULSE ColorElite , and a stand-alone product called MonacoDCcolor (see
Fig. 5-12); Fuji's ColourKit (see Fig. 5-11); and Pictocolor's InCamera (see
Fig. 5-13) software.
The products all work in similar fashion as described earlier in how
they handle the scanned target and the TDF. InCamera is a Photoshop
plug-in; all the other products are stand-alone applications. All the prod-

targets. At this time, ProfileMaker Pro 5.0 as well as MonacoProfiler and
PULSE ColorElite support the newer ColorChecker SG target as well as the
two original MacBeth targets.
Unlike virtually every aspect of calibrating and profiling scanners, dis-
plays, and printers, profiling digital cameras is still fraught with unre-
solved issues in my opinion. Although it is necessary to describe the color
produced from these devices, the exact methods still require a good deal
more work on the part of vendors of color management to provide a
solid, repeatable solution for all cameras and situations. Most treat a
digital camera like a scanner. That isn't the best way to treat a device like
