it. That, of course, isn't possible. A scene might have a huge dynamic
range, the tones between dark shadows and bright highlights that can be
(in some situations) 10,000 : 1! I may want to print this, yet the dynamic
range of the print process might be 500 : 1 or less.
Digital cameras do, however, “see” and record the world in a form
that's quite different from how we see the world. The initial RAW data
captured at some point has to be rendered to an image; an image because
