In-Depth Information
Windows users need to ensure that no other calibration software is
being used that is affecting the display. Applications like Adobe Gamma
associate a display profile to the display. Be sure to disassociate
that profile. To do this, right-click on the desktop and select Properties >
Settings > Advanced > Color Management . Select and remove any profile
currently associated with the monitor. Also, remove the Adobe Gamma
Loader Shortcut from the Startup folder. Now, reboot your computer and
then use the calibration and profile software.
Make sure the surface of the display is clean. This is especially an issue
for CRTs. Not all CRTs allow individual RGB control of the white point.
In this case you may be able to use a white point preset. If you are adjust-
ing the individual RGB controls of a CRT, set the red to the highest inten-
sity and adjust the green and blue controls to line up the arrows or
whatever type of feedback the software provides (see Figs. 3-7 and 3-8).
Often the software product asks you to adjust the contrast and/or bright-
ness for setting calibration, so always do this on a CRT! Don't be alarmed
when attempting to set the display controls and are unable to line up
arrows or other indicators exactly to the target calibration requested. Also
don't be concerned if the arrows bounce around or don't appear to
remain stationary. That's often normal and you'll drive yourself crazy
trying to adjust the onboard controls of the display to get all arrows to
line up perfectly. You're close enough! If your white point target was
6500 K and the software reports 6400 K or 6600 K, don't sweat it; that is
close enough, you'll likely never get any closer. These small differences
will be accounted for in the actual display profile. If you demand dead-

for setting the RGB
controls from
GretagMacbeth's Eye-One
Match software. The idea
is to line up all three
arrows so they hover over
the center position and
thus produce the closest
color temperature target
calibration. As you can see
here, I need to turn up the
red gun, which will also
lower the blue and green
arrows as the red arrow
gets closer to the desired
target calibration.
