from early 2004 until June 2005, when research on 1.2 MW
prototypes was completed and installed in the wind farm in
Daban, Xinjiang, as the first domestic MW-scale turbine. During
the next four years, Goldwind completed three upgrades on the
capacity and realised the commercialised manufacturing of 1.5 MW
and operation testing for 2.5 MW and 3.0 MW turbines, with
commercialised production by orders unfolding.
However, the worldwide community will not have any idea
about the hard choices made by Wu Gang and his team for the
first transformation. Before 1.2 MW direct-driven permanent
magnet, the major products of Goldwind were 600 kW and 750 kW,
which were technologically transformed, further developed,
innovated and integrated into industrialisation based on German
technologies. Goldwind also won 10 patents, 13 patent applications
and had diferent series of products of hubs at varied heights,
rotors of varied diameters. Under such circumstances, research in
MW-scale direct-driven permanent magnet wind turbine requires
innovative approaches, with risks. In the face of such “huge bet
and risk”, Wu Gang was fearless.
At the end of 2007, Goldwind completed the transformation
of its technology route and advanced with the second strategic
transformation with a solid foundation, in order to shift from
“wind power equipment manufacturer” to “wind power solution
provider”.
The second transformation of Goldwind started from the
early spring of 2008, on the basis of its core technologies of direct-
driven permanent magnet designs, control systems, converters,
pitch mechanisms, etc., integrating its components of wind
turbine manufacturing, wind power technology services and wind
power project development, which have transformed into core
competitiveness, thus providing wind power system solutions to
customers at home and abroad, and creating optimal value for
customers.
Based on the philosophy of “Create Value for Customers”,
Goldwind accelerated its pace of internationalisation. With
Goldwind Wind Energy GmbH as its operation in Germany, it
established an R&D centre and production base in September
2009, with the view to expanding its European market. In early
2010, Goldwind USA Inc. was set up in America, and at the end
of 2009, a branch in Australia. “The internationalisation of the
