obtained his engineering
degree from the Riga Technical University,
Latvia, the degree of Candidate of Technical
Science from Belarusian Technical University,
Belarus, and the Doctor of Engineering from
the Riga Technical University. He is a licensed

Avkshtol
He started working on electric drives
as a research engineer at the Riga Technical University. Later he
got interested in wind turbines and worked on grid-tie inverters.
For a short time, he worked on a power electronics project at the
Folkecenter for Renewable Energy, Denmark. When he moved to the
United States, he was employed by Bergey Windpower Company
and worked there for more than 10 years. There he designed and
tested power electronics for mostly residential scale wind turbines
as well as did customer support. Currently he is with Beacon Power
LLC, Massachusetts, a manufacturer of flywheels for smart grid
applications.
At present Igor's field of technical interests lies in the bi-
directional AC-DC-AC converters and space vector modulation:
harmonic mitigation, common mode voltage reduction, phase
imbalance compensation, power factor correction, field weakening,
and system stability in presence of significant grid impedance.
