Tehachapi developer, chose six Danish Danregn Bonus 65/13
machines among the American units already operating at its site.
The Bonus and Vestas units were 65 kW machines equipped with
a 3-bladed 15 m rotor operating upwind. They represented the
typical Danish design philosophy of heavy weight construction,
slow rotation speed and active yawing.

Backed by early negotiations of Danish company representatives
(amongst others: Wind Matic) since 1982, more and more Danish
machines were chosen by American developers in the years to
come. The three companies mentioned before were followed
by Micon, Wind Matic and Nordtank, all of whom were major
Danish wind turbine manufacturers. Since 1983 they delivered
their machines in thousands to California. Parallel to Denmark,
Bouma and Polenko from the Netherlands, MAN from Germany
and Howden from Scotland are the European companies of higher
