Genesys Prototype (Image: author).
Features of the prototype:
• Variable rotation speed by a inverter from SEGELEC and a
control system from SMA Kassel;
• External rotor-synchronous generator with excitation system
of permanent magnets;
• Rotor blades from the company Aeroconstruct (Keller);
• Rotor blade pitching by tooth belts;
• Blade pitching gear with a central control shaft and a spring-
loaded disc brake, which brought the blades without energy
storage but with the kinetic energy of the rotor into vane
position, so that the rotor was able to stop safely.
The system was quite a sensation for the experts in the sector,
not just because of the simplicity of the design, but also with a
46 m rotor it produced 20% more kWh per month compared to a
Vestas V44 turbine in the same wind park. The client Hecht and his
project manager Capricano planned to build a high number of
turbines, but the banks refused loans for innovative developments
and so the project ended in an economic disaster.
In 2000 the company Vensys emerged out of Klinger's research
team together with diferent stakeholders such as Provento and the
