Governmental activities were ceased in the early 1990s due
to lack of success and a rising private sector. Despite all the negative
aspects related to the federal projects it should not be left without
notice that these projects still were beneficial to the German wind
industry and its technological progress, respectively: The amount
of experience in design, manufacture and operation of large wind
turbines was very big and influential for the years to come. The
insights gained during these activities were very important for
the private sector. Finally, Germany impressively demonstrated the
will to utilise wind energy.
