In-Depth Information
And thus, after another disappointment the company employed
engineer
, who created a windmill, which was pleasant
to look at, robust and conventional with its three blades, Sala gear
and a French Leroy asynchronous generator. But unfortunately
there was no market for single-family wind turbines at the time.
After the erection of half a dozen, nothing more was heard about
the Odder windmill.

An Organic Windmill
The Thy windmill emerged around 1984 as a somewhat diferent
product. Flemming Grønkjær of Grønkjær Maskinværksted, later
Thymøllen, and architect Niels Helmer Christensen from Tygstrup,
jointly developed a simple and robust 7.5 kW windmill. Potential
customers were homes standing on their own grounds in North-
western Jutland. What made this windmill special were its solid,
equilateral and un-twisted wooden blades. The inventors made use
of the experience harvested from engineer Jacob Bugge's experi-
ments with this type of blades at the Folkecenter.
