Introduction
The modern wind turbine as we know it, was not developed
overnight in a big industrial company—its birth and development
was marked by hard work of many inventors, engineers, pioneers
and amateurs. It is not possible to point to any single enterprise
or institute that came up with an epoch-making invention, neither
is there a Steve Jobs or Bill Gates, who makes a breakthrough. It was
a result of a long process of making; it came through as a result of
the eforts of numerous engaged and gifted people, with their
success and failure stories. This chapter presents the history of
projects and inventions, that were an important, though often
forgotten, contribution to the development of the modern wind
power as we know it today.
