15.3.2  Danish Institutional Framework for Small Wind
Power
Small wind power in Denmark is supported by favourable legislation
but also many institutions and the industry, accredited inspectors
for approval (private companies) which are part of the institutional
framework.
The Small Wind Turbine Association (SWTA) had a leading
role in the launch of small-scale wind power at the political and
general public level. The SWTA was founded in June 2009
to promote the interest of wind power for the supply of individual
homes, SMEs and farms with a capacity up to 25 kW. It is a manu-
facturers' association that represents and promotes small size
wind power in Denmark by various strategies:
• Create public awareness—political level, consumer level,
industry
• Lobbying
• Establish technical standards, including safety
• Streamline planning/permit process
• Network with other committees, public bodies, insurance
companies, planning authorities, etc.
• Pave the way for financial support to new test station for small
wind turbines
• Develop new industrial sector, creates new jobs in manu-
facturing, installation, approval, testing, maintenance and
export
• Benefits from Danish wind turbines' favourable reputation for
quality
