Overview 
Within two years, from 2010 to 2012, small-size wind turbines
have re-created broad public interest in land-based wind power,
awareness of the importance of renewable energy and enabled
citizens to make energy self-supply a life-style issue.
More and more individual users prefer to produce their own
electricity from small windmills, photovoltaic installations, or a
combination of both, rather than buying energy from the national
grid. In terms of investments, many choose a small wind turbine
instead of a second car, a boat or a new kitchen. People living in rural
areas consider an ecological lifestyle as beneficial. Also, develop-
ment in modern small wind power enables people to choose an
