Cooperative Energy Movement
in Copenhagen

After several attempts to establish ofshore wind farms in various
places in Denmark, the Middelgrunden wind farm became the
first ofshore wind project based on the sale of shares. Before
that, an attempt in the Århus Bay had failed, and when we
presented a proposal for a project of 20 ofshore wind turbines
at Middelgrunden in 1996, it seemed an almost unattainable vision.
A fortunate combination of political will in the Danish parliament
and a strong local engagement in Copenhagen carried the idea
through.

No More Space on Land
In 1993, twelve Bonus wind turbines each of 300 kW were set up
in Avedøre Holme, and in 1996, seven Bonus 600 kW windmills
