About the author
was born in 1935
in Copenhagen. He undergraduated
in mathematics in 1956 and did his
M.Sc.(Pharm.) in 1962. He has been
trained in finance and strategic planning.
By profession, Bent is a wind energy
planner, but has been the lead manager
with various Danish Pharmacies from
1962 to 1985. He cofounded Ærøskøbing
Energy Plant, the largest power plant based on combined renewable
energy sources, and issued analyses of biomass resources as a part
of the planning of the combined power plant. The plant, partly
funded by EEC and commissioned in 1988, is in operation in
Ærøskøbing as a part of the district heating system.
Bent was invited to California by the Nordic Folkecenter
for studying the export potential for wind turbines. This lead to
the formation of the wind turbine company, Dencon, in 1986.
Bent was associated with Dencon A/S as director from 1986
to 1989, where his responsibility was sales

agencies, and
with Dangrid Consulting Group Aps as wind energy planner from
1989 to 1992. During this period he also co-edited a report issued
by the Danish Department of Energy on the perspective of the
Danish wind turbine industry. From 1992 to 1995, he was with
Consolidated Investment Ltd. and provided consultancy on various
planning issues, such as identifying business opportunities for
larger wind energy projects on a global scale; setting up of
development companies in selected market (Spain and Scotland);
supporting the companies for all technical, administrative, and
legal issues; training the staf; controlling and supporting all
contracts and agreements such as land lease and power purchase
agreement; identifying subsidies; and negotiating with local and
governmental entities, financial institutions and investors.
In 1995, Bent described a wind energy project for the Danish
island Ærø (Vind energi udnyttelse på Ærø), including owner
structure, legal issues, physical assumptions, local economy, etc.
