extinguishing and heat pumps. The first two items were soon
dropped, but we reached amazing results with heat pumps and
heat recovery.
In order to see what our rivals could ofer, we visited HI-
messen (industrial fair), which had a hall with alternative energy
forms. As we arrived, we saw multitude of people ofering heat
recovery equipment, and Peter Stubkjær Sørensen turned to me
and said quite succinctly: “There are too many of them, we'll drop
it.” Shortly afterwards we saw a picture of the Nordtank windmill.
Peter Stubkjær Sørensen saw the poster and noticed: “That is
something that cannot be done just by anybodyᆳit must be the
thing for us.” We tried to obtain the franchise for the Nordtank
wind turbine in Denmarkᆳbut it failed. Then we just had to start
with our own.

A Crazy Idea
The situation was that we had already spent a good deal of money
on projects that were not realised. Søren Sørensen, therefore,
was not willing to take the idea of wind turbines on, as he was
not ready to throw more money out through the window for our
crazy ideas. Consequently, I was sent home.
Late in the evening of the same day, Peter Stubkjær
Sørensen called me and asked if I would come the next day as his
father wanted to have a talk with us. The following day at 9.00 in
the morning, we were asked to come to Søren Sørensen's office,
where he told us that it was a brainless idea. But on the other
hand, he did not want us to think he was a close-fisted old man,
who had no thought for the future. In the end he told us that an
account would be opened in the company, and that DKK 1 million
(EUR 150 000) would be deposited on it for us. When we spend
it, we were not allowed to come back for more, for then the cash-
box will be closed—and he meant it. He did, however, ofer to buy
the first wind turbine, which was to be set of against the amount
we were to owe him.
When we left his office, we sat together—what to do now? We
decided to find all the literature about the subject and find some
people who knew something about windmills. And a few weeks
later we knew a great deal more about windmills, we had also
come to know about people who worked with wind power.
