I stood there the electrician was connecting the controls at
the bottom of the tower. By a mistake the small generator was
suddenly powered up while my hands were still on the belt. As a
pure reflex without thinking about where I was standing I jumped
back. And it was only because my shirt was partly caught by a
fitting that I did not fall down from the height of 18 metres. With a
torn shirt and my heart in my mouth I was able to climb back onto
the platform having acquired a new bit of experience.
The wind turbine in Dejbjerg was our first one to be delivered
to a customer, and a short time after installation I had my first, but
far from last experience of lying sleepless during the first night when
a wind turbine was running during a gale. Fortunately our wind
turbines behaved well, and they sufered only from a few childhood
diseases. Later in 1979 Karl Erik erected his next wind turbine, this
time for Aase HĂžjmark in Stauning.

The wind turbines operated well, but it was also evident that
commercial business was not Karl Erik's strong point. Consequently
we agreed that we should find a licensee who could manage the
serial production in return for a royalty. Late in the summer of
