First and foremost I had been invited to give a speech
at the Danish Organisation for Renewable Energy (OVE)
VindTræf (Wind Workshops) on 18 February 1978 at Snoghøj
Folkehøjskole (Folk High School). Along with other do-it-yourself
wind turbine builders I was to tell about my project. There had
been three other workshops before this one, but this was my
first, and it was a very inspiring experience to be with so many
like-minded people. I had, of course, been aware that other
do-it-yourself builders existed, but it was a great surprise to see
such a crowd of enthusiastic pioneers, with so many diferent
projects.

OVE Safety Guidelines
The VindTræf at Snoghøj became decisive in many ways. There
had already been cases of wind turbines being wrecked as a result
of runaways, and the wind power community was nervous that if
we had too many spectacular wrecks at an early date this might
lead to the intervention by the authorities, which might hamper
developments. That was the reason that the VindTræf agreed that
we should forestall events and lay down our own guidelines for wind
turbine safety. To this end an OVE safety committee was appointed,
counting Preben Maegaard, Erik Grove-Nielsen, Johannes Grove-
Nielsen, Ian Jordan, Askel Krogh, Dorte Arp and myself. During
1978 the safety committee met a number of times, and early in
1979 the committee was able to present a small folder describing
the safety guidelines that had been the result of meetings and
