In-Depth Information
As the controller relay for the generator and the shaft brake
was mercilessly pulled out of their sockets, the powerful rotor lost
its connection to the electricity grid, and very quickly speeded up
with a scary noise—but after a second of doubt, the tip brakes were
deployed with a swishing and roaring sound. What a relief to hear
this noise, and see the rotor reduce its speed into a more safe rotation
speed: now I could go on producing blades, and my customers could
go on building turbines. Our home would be saved from bankruptcy
for some time again.

The prototype tip had outboard placed springs (winter 1978,
in Herborg).
