new blade type. In 2004, LM made world record by supplying a
blade of 61.5 m for a 5 MW German REpower wind turbine erected
at the Elbe estuary and for REpower's 6 MW version.
For many years LM has been the world's biggest producer
of wind turbine blades with factories on all continents. The
blades have become so big that they are expensive and difficult to
transport. That is one of the reasons why blades are produced in
the country of installation when the market is big enough for a
local production to be profitable. Often there is also a national
condition that a specific share of the value of the wind turbine to
be locally produced.

LM has been a blade supplier for a large number of wind
