march. Denmark got independent suppliers of blades, others could
supply control systems. Now, future wind turbine producers could
purchase the basic components.

Blades of Økær, KJ, Olsen and Svaneborg from Folkecenter's
collection. The Økær blades are unique because they belong to
the period before tip brakes became mandatory.
They soon seized the opportunity. The 5 m blade was installed
on the successful 22 kW Herborg wind turbine that was licensed
to Vestas under the name Vestas HVK, the beginning of the world
leading company. Soon also Nordtank, Danregn/Bonus and others
entered the market with their first generation wind turbines using
the 5 m Økær blade.
7.12 The Windmill Industry Goes International
The Danish blade concept was now established. Improving details
and building production capacity was the next step. Erik Grove-
Nielsen showed an astonishing talent for innovation; in the
Aeroform regime he developed a complete repertoire of blades from
2.5 m upwards. Especially the 7.4 m blade was a hit. It was used on
the popular 55 kW windmills from 1980 and onwards, paving the
way for the modern wind industry. Later followed the development
