Good quality has a long life: Drive train and other parts of the
150 kW Folkecenter-designed Vind-Syssel from 1986 got a
new term in Sri Lanka in 2012. Russel de Zilva, director of
Vallibel, decided to have local production windmills using
updated Folkecenter design of wind turbines. First, three
second-hand 150 kW windmills were installed, followed by
four windmills in 2012 which were made in Sri Lanka. Thirty
additional will be manufactured for the Sri Lanka project.
Later, 500 kW and 1500 kW types are planned for local
production in Sri Lanka.

The Blades Are the Core of It All
7.11.1
No Blades, No Windmills
The idea of the independent blade producer first appears in an
article in the Danish daily newspaper
on 22 March
1976. Here Amdi Petersen, leader of the Vestjysk Energikontor in
Tvind, says that, “(…) our next step will be the development of some
quite concrete models. For example, we can make moulds in which
people can make their own blades. They are often the biggest
problem. So we will start doing that very soon… That is quite in the
spirit of the wind. It cannot be monopolised. Nobody needs to hold
back. Just come… all our experiences are there for the benefit of
everyone.”
